Mapping environmental, agrarian and urban conflicts: pedagogical experience using the Padlet

Abstract

Whether in the countryside or in the city, the capitalist model of appropriation of the environment generates several conflicts, mainly involving traditional or peripheral populations. Giving visibility to these conflicts is essential to support the resistance of those affected. The objective of this article is to present a report on the pedagogical experience in the development of the Map of Environmental, Agrarian and Urban Conflicts of the North and Northwest of Fluminense, constructed in a collective and collaborative way within the scope of the discipline “Special Topics in Urban Studies: Urban and Socio-Environmental Conflicts” , taught by the authors at the Postgraduate Program in Social Policies at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro. The platform used to create the map was Padlet, a tool that allows the creation of interactive, collaborative and free murals. The database to locate the conflicts was, initially, the CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations, followed by a search for scientific articles and news, with the municipalities of the north and northwest regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro as a territorial cut. In total, 35 conflicts were identified, nine urban, nine agrarian and 17 environmental. Each conflict was registered on a form with pre-defined categories.
