Abstract

With the constant growth of cities, we need to give importance to the contrast of buildings with the natural environment, so that we have the effect of well-being and quality of life in our environments. Therefore, the present work sought, through bibliographical research and the recording of some actions by the Green School Program (PEV) team, to highlight the importance of green spaces and their influence on people's quality of life, emphasizing environmental awareness. This work presents a selection of actions developed by the PEV team linked to the Federal Institute Sertão Pernambucano, Campus Petrolina, related to the implementation of green spaces in the municipality of Petrolina. These spaces include: planting trees, establishing vegetable gardens and disposing of organic waste for composting. Until now, approximately 100 seedlings of typical caatinga trees have been planted and two vegetable gardens are fully operational, providing fresh vegetables for school lunches and herbs for teas. The main result of this extension work is the involvement of the entire school community with the proposed actions and the possibility of providing these people with direct contact with nature.
